“It has helped our life tremendously...”

QT Freckles Darlin’, a fast pole bending horse had a major problem, she tied up, a lot! Dr. Debbie Guillory of Miss-Lou Veterinary Clinic in Vidalia, LA, whose daughter Jamie rides QT in competition, had tried everything to stop this regular occurrence from happening. (11 year old horse and the tying up episodes had been happening all her life)

The tying up usually started during warm up for competition, but Dr. Guillory said it was not typical azoturia and there was no sweating involved. Just a locked down horse looking at you unable to move. The only thing to do was unsaddle and leave her where she stood, coming back after a while. The episodes could be brought on by heat stress, humidity or for no good reason at all.

Dr. Guillory tried using RVI (Rubeola Virus Immunomodulator), Baking Soda, Vitamin E and Selenium injections, Magnetic Blankets (old and new styles), Laser, the Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation Technique (VOM) and other treatments but nothing made any difference until she tried EquiPride in the Fall of 2005. Since that time, the horse has tied up only once (and that was after a more strenuous than normal warm up) whereas before it happened every week, sometimes several days in a row. Dr. Guillory says, “EquiPride made the difference in this mare.” “It has helped our life tremendously. It was stressful not knowing if she would tie up.”

QT was run in competition after tying up episodes but she could not do better than a 21.0. Now on EquiPride she runs a fast 19.5 to 20.0

Dr. Guillory goes on to say that QT Freckles Darlin also does not have her usual skin allergies since using EquiPride. She’s always had to keep her in a big turn out with a hot wire to keep rubbing and scratching to a minimum. This year there are no allergies and she has a “slick pretty coat”. She gets 3 scoops of EquiPride a day in her rations.

Now all the horses are on EquiPride. She says of Fancy, her 16 year old (gelding) barrel horse, “after 27 rodeos over a year’s time, running against the same competitors, you can really tell the difference... And there is a difference with EquiPride.” The competition in barrels this year, the top time will be 16.0 and tenth place is a 16.1. There is no room for error.

Another of her barrel horses, Rex, has been on EquiPride for three months and is no longer sore in his rear end (right rear muscle).
